Peace on Earth, Is it really that difficult to comprehend? I think it's time we humans grow up, and learn to work togeather.
I mean, we have been at the very least recording history for thousands of years, and there are still those that feel we need to be living as we did in our primordial past, lest we anger the gods and spirits that we, as beasts hiding in caves or under brush, created to explain the mysteries that surrounded us at that time. At what point do we as a people stop fighting over which subgroup should rule, and figure out how we may, as an intelligent mass, rule and govern ourselves, yet live our lives as growing individuals? What must be agreed from the outset, is that we all have the right to live our own lives as we will, without buying into, or being manipulated by the constant stream of propaganda that comes at us from all sides.
We must, as individuals, learn to think, grow, and develop rational thoughts of our own. And we must learn to explain ourselves and these thoughts to others without fear. The only way this can happen, is that we must all share the ability to see ourselves as equals to anyone else. Only by working with a level ground can the growth as a whole progress. As long as those who are in a place of our governance, or those that hold us bound by economics, manipulate us through overbearing use of the powers of their offices, we cannot be free to develop beyond what we see today. This is not to say that any such office is wrong, because management of any ordered group is by all means needed, but the use of such placements should be viewed by those that hold them as a best use of their abilities, not merely an avenue to overpower all as an end result.
Life as I see, and have seen it. I, Barry Scott, live in a world where I have always, as I have understood it, had my choices to make. I have always tried to view the world around me, and it's peoples, and their ways, on a level field. This, as I have learned, is a liberal approach to thinking, and there are those who try to convince myself and others that this is wrong. It is not, and I have learned that those who believe otherwise have either been manipulated by controlling groups of people, or are attempting to control groups of said people for their own gain.
Why would anyone want the people around them to limit their thoughts by creating fear or resentment of others? To limit their actions to what they want them to do.
As I was growing up, there was a huge outcry for equality for peoples in my own nation. There were those who were decendents of enslaved peoples that were still being treated as a secondary class of citizens, and a movement was established to finally give them the freedoms and level of equality they desired. The civil rights amendment to our constitution was written and ratified. This was not an easy transition stage for many people, but it established a standard that most people assumed, being that all people should have equal rights and liberties under the framework of our constitution. An equal rights amendment was put foreward to such an effort, and many people did a suprising thing, they manipulated the forces of propaganda and religions to battle the ratification of this needed amendment. Why? Because the effort to establish equal rights for all would mean that those they wanted to keep silent and hidden from view would have the power to express themselves and be treated as equals under the law, and those who believed in the conservative front feared that these hidden segments of society would manipulate their freinds and children by showing that they could be, not what their parents or peers wanted them to become, but whatever they themselves wanted. This is why the women of this country still have limited rights, and why the gay population has limited exposure to express themselves. Why haven't these two groups just been limited very strictly by the governing body? Because these two groups not only have representation within all governing bodies, but also represent the largest body of spendable cashflow in the country! Hmmm.
It is my honest opinion that when our government was established, equal rights for all was EXACTLY what was meant to happen. As long as the religiously based front is running our congress, it will not happen. This is why it was established at the onset that there was to be a complete separation of church and state. Only when those who truly care about freedom and justice for all make themselves heard, will any of these problems change. Knowing it could happen any time, is why we are currently having our rights removed one by one.
America is a democracy, and when only the right wing bothers to express themselves, and vote, and grab positions of power, then we live as a nation as only the right wing wishes. It is truly a shame to hear people say that they do not care to vote, because they cannot make a difference. The right wing is doing it's will now because they applied the concept that every vote counted, and pretty much made it a moral mandate for all of their people to vote and make the change that has occurred. What must be remembered is that this could change at any time, because no matter what they believe, they are not the majority. they just have the largest powerbase, and will try to keep it at all costs.
What is going on here? The christian right has established itself as the power behind the governing body of the most powerful nation on the planet. This power is now trying to slowly change not only the framework of our country, but using the aggression of others that do need to be stopped around the world, as a reason to manipulate the other governing bodies into allowing us to police the world, and to grab up and manipulate the economies of these countries to foreward their own desires. The christians and the level of power they hold has become the antichrist they most feared, and are locked in battle with the muslim fundamentalists as to which group should be allowed to revert us all back to the past.
How and what do we change? The greatest concept reaching towards world peace and understanding that has ever been established is the United Nations. At one time this body was very near to establishing itself as the policing body for the world's dissagreements and radical governments. This has been slowly changing as the United States is growing in the balance of power. The United Nations must be reestablished as the decision making body in all matters that effect the global affairs of people. The Taliban should have been stopped in their tracks when they first began to forcefully take governments, and reduce the freedoms of the people of those nations by forcing the establishment of strict adherance to their religious beleifs. The previous government of Iraq should have been stopped before the Kurdish front was ever gassed. When a leader kills off his opponents to steal, they should not be able to hold or run that government Period. We do not live any longer in a world where power or economic change should be created by force or coercive manipulation of the citizenry of any nation.
The basis of all world conflicts in the last hundred years comes to two problems: The first is the forced coersion of economies, and the second is the forced establishment of a particular religion, or the complete restriction of such.
Belief can be a beautiful thing. Religion is, and should be, a very personal thing. It is good to have a chance to share your views with others, and to worship as you wish, in the temple of your choice. However, as it is a personal expression, it should be held closely, and used only for your own salvation as you see it. Religious beleif should not be a reason to forcibly manipulate anyone or anything that effects the populace in general, and doing so should be wrong. It is good to have a standard code of morality established, but not if the restricting of any persons own beleifs are the result.
What Price Economy? The concept of economic development is a very good thing. The goods and services that all people need and want are represented. Building a buiness from the ground up into an international concern is a great accomplishment for anyone to undertake. Forced manipulation of a populace to cooperate or serve it should never happen. Endangering people by creating hazardous substances that cannot be properly controlled should also never happen, and when it does happen by accident, the company should be held responsible for it's actions, but not destroyed as a whole do to an accidental occurrence. No one should ever be enslaved or forced to have to work at anything.
The Open World The most amazing thing that has happened in my lifetime is the internet, and the concept of the world wide web. There has never been a chance in the history of humanity for the peoples of the world to directly link, one on one, with one another. This is our chance to really make some changes for the best in the world. If anyone anywhere had the open opportunity to view and interract with this medium, anyone could truly become the best they could possibly be at anything they desire. I have always heard that knowledge is the basis of your own personal power, and there is no better opporunity for the wealth of the worlds knowledge than in this simple exchange medium. All nations should allow the chance for every citizen to have access in order to have the most capable population available. (side note: The internet in 2007 is being economically restricted as to what can be found by searching, when using the major search engines.) - bs
Notes on the recent developement of an old nation My award, if there was one, for the new chances given to the population by a nation, would fall squarely on the shoulders of the oldest established nation on the face of the earth, CHINA. I see many good things happening in this country, among the best is the recent change that will now allow it's citizens to hold property. We must remember that this is coming from a country that was for aeons run by a variety of empire building feudal lords, then became a communistic nation. This was partly to give a chance for it's people to break from generations of virtual enslavement, and the best available option for balancing the power in the most populated country in the world. I know that there is alot of talk about trying to expect China to move towards a democratic form of government, but based on the past, I am very happy to see that the present form of government has come this far to try to satisfy the whole. We will only hope, that as time goes on, the people of China will realize more of the freedoms they deserve.
